As a long time Kylie fan, can't believe that Medellin's new entry is at 87!. It seems that these 2-pop legends, who still release pop songs and 're invent themselves, will no longer have a top ten hit because ageism? Ridiculous!

It was only a #87 entry because it is a bad song.....

George Ezra #22 in sales & #30 in official. Arent these positions ridicilous for a 57 weeks old song?

Do the OCC pay any attention to what they're typing? The 'record labels' on each track are largely nonsense, incorrect or an impressively cringeworthy combo

This is my thoughts on the Charts. Shotgun by George Ezra is still in the top 40 and it has been in the top 40 since June or July 2018. It would not suprise me if it stays in the Charts for most of 2019 like Happy by Pharrell Williams which was in the top 40 for 11 months back in 2014. Mr Brightside by the Killers is back in the top 100 and it originally reached #10 back in 2004. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen which is at #81 has never been in the top 40 and it should of been the the Bohemian Rhapsody film came out back in October or November 2018 and it should of been re-released and there should of been other Queen songs in the top 40 as well such as We will Rock you, We are the champions, Killer Queen, Somebody to Love and Love of my Life! Well done to Lil Nas X for getiing a second week at #1. I am not to keen on Lewis Capaldi's song someone you loved. Lewis Capaldi is Peter Capaldi's Cousin who played the 12th Doctor in Doctor Who. Baby Shark by PinkFong is still in the top 100 even though it's a novelty single. The last novelty single that was the Charts was Axel F by Crazy Frog back in 2005 and it managed to stop Speed of sound by Coldplay getting to number 1. But I could be wrong about Crazy Frog's Axel F being the last novelty single in the Charts before Baby Shark. I prefer the original version of Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer way back in 1985 which is the soundtrack for the film Beverly Hills Cop. Perfect by Ed Sheeran which is at #71 has been in the top 100 for 2 years now and it was the Christmas #1 back in December 2017 and two versions of the song was relased one that features Beyonce and it got renamed to, "Perfect Duet" and then another version called perfect Symphony that featured Andrea Bocelli. But the orignal version of Ed Sheeran's Perfect got the Christmas #1 back in December 2017. I do hope the play the top 40 in full on BBC Radio 1 like they did when it was on a Sunday. That's all I have to say about the Charts at this time.

Madonna's new single entered at #87, lol. There's no buzz about the new era. Madame X is going to drop out of the charts quicker than Rebel Heart. Oh dear.

Maybe if you didnt turn a blind eye to manipulation?? Its ok for radio to not add the song, because shes too old? Meanwhile, take a good look at your Top 100. Plenty of songs that are 1 to 2 years old, and way too many novelty songs. Im just surprised "Bob The Builder" hasnt re-entered the charts, as apparently thats the taste of the UK right now.

Madge's new song is fab! As for the no 1, it's manure on an old town road!

Shocked o see Madonna outside the TOP 75, the song was #70 on midweeks.
People don't stream Madonna but she is #32 on the Single Sales Chart.
Are there official remixes being released for this song? This could do great at the clubs.
I know she is now more an albums artist but this song is good.
Hope she climbs next week now that the video is out and will have a full week of streaming (plus she is now being played at radio).

Nice to see Aviici get a TOP 10. The song is not his best work but it's good.

Madonna struggles to sell albums in the UK nowadays. MDNA has only sold about 130,000 copies since 2012 and Rebel Heart hasn't even reached 100,000. I doubt Madame X is going to do any better. It has NO buzz surrounding it.

Madonna & Maluma - Medellin NEW ENTRY @ #87 !!!! WTF One of Madge's WORST EVER performing singles and just shows that at 60, no matter how many times she keeps trying to re-invent herself and stay relevant, now she is a granny she no longer appeals to the masses. Time to retire methinks.

NN

It can still climb next week. Was #32 on single sales but out of the TOP 100 of streaming. Did better on the single sales chart than GMAYL (#37) and some other singles from the past 10 years (including Miles Away that peaked #39). Medellin is steady in #24-28 positions of iTunes for the past 24 hours (and climbing).

avatar

RR87

iTunes is no longer important. An artist can get to #1 on their chart with only a few thousand copies sold. Streaming is key, and Madonna's Spotify numbers aren't great.

P

Nope Nu No, it did not do better than Give Me All Your Luvin at all. GMAYL would have come in at 16 17, if the sales team didn't halve its first week sales because of the leaks it had beforehand!

MA

It had 2 days of data, not a full week like most of the the Top 100.
The UK really cant be counted on to accurately portray what is truly popular. When certain radio stations won't play her because shes "too old", that tells u all u need to know about chart manipulation.
Medellin has a lot going for it, the addition of Maluma & the Latin vibe. Meanwhile, if Taylor Swifts latest song about herself ( next release will probably be about a failed love) goes in at or near the top, stand up & cheer your saccharine Top 100.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always

- ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X remains at #1 on the singles chart for a second week! Both the original & remix combined received around 10.3 million streams since the last chart, making it the third highest streaming week of 2019 so far (behind ‘7 Rings’ & ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’ by Ariana Grande).

- ‘Someone You Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi remains at #1 on the national airplay chart for a third non-consecutive week.

- ‘Old Town Road’ is also #1 on Britain’s YouTube chart for a second week in a row! It increases 15.9% in weekly views to 3.72 million.

- JONAS BLUE FT THERESA REX – WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU (#23)
You know I’m almost always going to be pleased when a Jonas Blue song gets big & while I’d rather ‘Wild’ became his next hit, I can certainly appreciate this too! The production might be predictable coming from him, but it’s still elegant & vibrant, with the whole song flowing a lot better than some of his other singles. Unfortunately, I can’t say I’m totally behind Theresa Rex’s vocals, which seem a bit too rough & twangy to fit in on a song like this, but I do feel she at least captured the feeling of insanity with comes with love well enough, which is what the content here mostly is. Like I said, Jonas Blue has done far better in the past & this might not add anything to the talent he’s already shown, but I’m still a fan of this anyway. Solid 7/10!

- LIL DICKY – EARTH (#24)
So as you probably could’ve guess by ‘Freaky Friday’, Lil Dicky is both a comedian & rapper, which are two talents that I think are impressive to combine… but is it okay to do that for a charity song? Of course, the biggest strength of this is the fact that he got so many other famous artists to raise awareness to climate change & how we can stop it from happening as fast & the whole feel of the instrumentation reminds me a lot of something from ‘Lion King’, but they also try to throw in a few punchlines that really don’t connect & just seem immature of this kind of charity single, however there are at least some stereotypes of animals that made me laugh. I feel like I’m going to remember this more as a song I respect than one that I like. I mean, it’s good, but it’s nothing amazing. Light 7/10 for me!

- DIGGA D – NO DIET (#27)
Not only did I expect this to miss the Top 40 completely, but I although thought from the snippets that this would another generic rap song… but it turns out I was wrong! Digga D’s sound might not be unique in anything, but he does bring a more delivery than most of his peers, the pounding bass is a decent addition alongside the trap beat, but what I thought would be a lot different was the content. The “coke” reference used in most urban music implies the name of the drug, but the cover art & video implies that it’s actually a reference to the name of the drink, although the main focus of the song is primarily about wealth. That said, he does discuss the issues of street violence & gun crime, which is still a good cause regardless if the latter isn’t really an issue in the UK. I’m not sure I’ll end up ever really liking this, but it’s a promising first listen. Solid 6/10.

- KYGO & RITA ORA – CARRY ON (#39)
This collaboration actually intrigued me as soon as I saw it anyway, but even more so when I saw that it appears on the upcoming ‘Detective Pikachu’ film. Anyway, overall, It’s enjoyable enough, although it’s definitely not among Kygo’s best. It does start off rather slow, but gradually builds into an anthemic, tropical, laid-back hook despite not really having a drop, although it’s just not as inspirational as it’s trying to be. I do like how Rita Ora’s sweet vocals glide well over a lot of production, even if I’m not sure muffling them at points in the song works, since she sounds so much better naturally! While there is consistent quality on display, it’s not enough to truly really wow me like I know both of these artists can do. For now, I’m thinking a solid 7/10.

- On the albums chart, ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ by Billie Eilish returns to #1 for a third non-consecutive week. It has a lead of around 6,000 combined sales this week!

- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘The Greatest Showman [Soundtrack]’ by Various Artists (3-2), ‘Not Waving But Drowning’ by Loyle Carner (debuts at #3), ‘Staying At Tamara’s’ by George Ezra (8-4) & ‘Bohemian Rhapsody [Soundtrack]’ by Queen (6-5).

- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘ME!’ by Taylor Swift ft Brendon Urie, ‘Let Nature Sing’ by The RSPB, ‘Vossi Bop’ by Stormzy, ‘You Say’ by Lauren Daigle, ‘Light It Up’ by Marshmello, Tyga & Chris Brown, ‘Hurts 2B Human’ by P!NK ft Khalid, ‘Wanting’ by Not3s, 'Daily Duppy' by J Hus ft GRM Daily, 'Sixteen' by Ellie Goulding, 'Do You Mean' by The Chainsmokers ft Ty Dolla $ign & Bulow, 'Don't Worry Bout Me' by Zara Larsson & maybe even more.

- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

I agree with those certain punchlines on "Earth".

Okay they're quite funny and fit Lil Dicky but not this song. Like we could've went without talking about c*m on a climate change charity song, no matter how it fits Lil Dicky's style.

BTW The Voice of Finland finale was yesterday!
The thing that made this one extremely interesting is that the winner will collaborate with STEREO on a song! Seeing as STEREO has had a Top 5 hit song this year with "Vuosien Päästä", I'm very excited for this collab!

So the final 4 was:

TEAM OLLI: Markus Salo, 36
-Team Olli has always had these type of singers: true Finnish persons with strong voices who sing old or new Finnish classics.

While it's good for them, I'm really not a fan of this kind of style. However what ironically makes Markus stand out from other similar Team Olli finalists throughout years is obviously Olli's tragic death in February before the live shows, which has really had an effect on Olli's team and the whole season.
My ranking in the finale: #4

TEAM REDRAMA: Roope Palmu, 25
-Roope sings mostly R&B, sometimes pop and rock. His strenght is his way to play with his voice. He has performed songs by female R&B artists and made them his songs!

Unfortunately Roope hasn't been my favorite this season, and I'm still quite bitter over Redrama's knockout stage, where Roope IMO underperformed, but still went through to the live shows, dropping out some of my all-season favorites.
He's not bad but would be my #3 on the finale.

TEAM ANNA: SARA JAGROUNY, 25
- the Swedish-born Sara didn't start as a favorite but has really developed during this season. She doesn't feel like a star off-stage and is quite shy but comes alive on stage!

She has performed songs like "What About Us", "Take Me To Church" and "I'll Never Love Again". She's a pop singer and would really fit a STEREO song!
My ranking in the finale: #2

TEAM TONI: Jasse Jatala, 30
-wow Jasse has really been something!
He is a hard rock singer, he has only sang rock songs b but he can sing so well, and he's such an electrifying performer!

He wouldn't fit a STEREO song on paper but I actually think they would make something that would be really cool!
Maybe not my favorite all-season but definately up there. And in the finale, my #1.

avatar

Henri Laitila

1

UPDATE AFTER RESULTS
#1: Markus Salo (Team Olli); 41,9%
#2: Jasse Jatala (Team Toni); 28,6%
#3: Roope Palmu (Team Redrama); 19,2%
#4: Sara Jagrouny (Team Anna); 10,3%

I can't believe this... Markus, my least-favorite on the finale won! I can't believe this, so disappointed.

Okay as I said Markus is a true Finnish man who can sing and perform incredibly honestly, but that doesn't really affect me and is somewhat boring even.

Obviously this is a big R.I.P. for Team Olli. And emotional, as this is Olli's first and last win on his time on the show.

And about the STEREO collab... I even joked that if Markus wins, STEREO would pull their offer off. I just can't see these three together at all.

My interest for this collab just reduced a lot but I'll still present this to you when it's out👍

Hey Piran! I really like that 'Old Town Road' manages to stay at #1 with 84,648 combined sales, higher than anything but '7 rings' with 126,240 in its 1st week and 86,143 in its 2nd week, and 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' with 84,701 in its 1st week. I also really like that 'Piece Of Your Heart' climbs to #2 this week, even if it is 20k combined sales behind 'Old Town Road' and less than 1k ahead of 'Someone You Loved'. I also absolutely love seeing 'SOS' make a big climb into the Top 10 at #6, making it Avicii's 10th Top 10! The big climb for 'All Day and Night' is great as well.
As for the debuts, I'd have to give 'What I Like About You' a solid 7/10, 'Earth' would probably be a light 6/10 for me as a song, though I definitely do appreciate the cause behind it, 'No Diet' would be a strong 6/10 and 'Carry On' would be my favourite of the week with a strong 7/10 to light 8/10. I also really like the debut for 'Power is Power' at #49, even if it couldn't quite make the Top 40, and the other GoT song on the chart, 'Jenny of Oldstones' by Florence + The Machine at #75 is especially impressive given that it's not even a single, nor is it on the 'For The Throne' album. It's simply a track featured on S8E2 on Monday, sung by one of the characters during the episode with the Florence version playing during the credits.
Next week it looks like the battle for #1 will be between 'Old Town Road' and 'Vossi Bop', with the latter currently #1 on both Spotify and Apple Music and #3 on iTunes, though it can't quite beat the combined streams of both versions of 'Old Town Road', at least not on Spotify. 'ME!' also looks like it has a good chance of reaching the Top 10 or probably Top 5, with it being #6 on Spotify, #7 on Apple Music and #1 on iTunes. 'Wanting' by Not3s might also debut, currently #31 on Apple Music but only #100 on Spotify, and 'Let Nature Sing' will probably debut thanks to its sales, though the lack of streams will definitely hamper it.

Hey Gameskiller! :)
Yeah, I just think it's cool that a song like 'Old Town Road' even the slightest bit of traction in the UK, let alone going to #1 with the strongest week of 2019 so far by a male artist. I wish that it was the remix version that performed better in the UK to allow Billy Ray Cyrus to be credited, but I still like the original enough though.
Yeah, 'Earth' might not be fantastic as a song, but at least I can respect what it's trying to do. As I said to you on Crown Note, 'Power Is Power' is decent, but I'm not really into 'Jenny Of Oldstones'. Then again, I've never really followed 'Game Of Thrones' as a whole really, haha.
Regarding next week, I agree with most of your predictions. Things did look promising for 'ME!' on its first day, but it's barely going to make the Top 10 unless its sales & streams stabilise soon. Then again, despite only having one #1 single, Taylor is very consistent at getting Top 10 hits over here & I'm sure her upcoming album will still to #1. I'm hoping 'ME!' will at least manage to hit #1 on the Hot 100 in the US though.
'Vossi Bop' is looking likely to become Stormzy's highest charting song to date & if it doesn't stop 'Old Town Road' this week, then we might have the latter as our #1 for at least another month.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Henri! :)
You never know about that collaboration; for example, I didn't think one between Taylor Swift & Brendon Urie would work, but it does! I have that the Markus & Stereo collaboration will pleasantly surprise you. :D
While we're on the subject of 'ME!', what are your thoughts on it? I definitely think it's one of her stronger lead singles. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, glad we agree on those.
By the way, do you know how we were discussing Norwich City the other day? They did end up getting promoted to the Premier League last night after all! We'll see if they can win at Villa next week & allow them to finish top of the Championship League. ;)

avatar

Foxes

It's really insane with just how well 'Old Town Road' has been doing, but I definitely like it since it's a really well executed mix between country and trap that shouldn't work, but does anyway! I want Billy Ray Cyrus to be credited as well, but I think the only way that could happen is if the label specifically requests it, since the original version charted first. I think if the remix was released before the track charted and was making up a majority of the combined sales then Billy would've been credited.
It's not surprising that you're not really into 'Jenny of Oldstones' if you don't watch the show since, for me at least, the main appeal comes from the context of the show rather than the song itself. That being said, I would definitely recommend watching the show if you ever get the time. I only started watching it for the first time this March, but it quickly started fighting with 'The 100' for my favourite show of all time, and it's extremely easy to see why it's the most popular TV show ever. It can be a bit slow, especially during the first season, but the amazing action sequences (mainly from the later seasons) and incredibly intelligent and complex writing more than make up for it.
I'm still pretty sure 'ME!' will at least make the Top 10, though #1 does look a bit out of reach for it. 'Vossi Bop', though, will almost definitely become Stormzy's highest charting song, since currently it's 'Big For Your Boots' with a #6 peak, and 'Vossi Bop' looks all but certain to reach at least #2.

Oh I forgot to tell you about my favorite from this year's The Voice of Finland: Joli Malki.

Joli is originally from Syria, and had a really troubled childhood. She participated in this season, beginning with blind audition's "Million Years Ago", originally by Adele.

When Joli performed that song, everyone was blown off. It might be the best performance in the show's history.

The youtube video gained a lot of popularity, having almost a million views as of April. Adding to that most of the comments were from Syrian people, so it had really went around the world!

Unfortunately for some strange reason it was deleted, which is a shame. I'll post a link to Ruutu's video of it, if it doesn't work I'll find another Youtube video👍

https://www.ruutu.f*/video/3344667

(Replaced the i in .fi. Just add i in place of *)

avatar

Henri Laitila

1

I think "Me" is good, but not perfect.

It's catchy, the performances are good, the production is fine, and the video is awesome but I don't like some lyrics.

Obviously the "Spelling Is Fine", which other people have also said about. I also think the whole bridge is underwhelming.

But more positively, I think it's a good song. Definitely more excited for this, more "feel-good" album than Reputation which was quite dark.

Also cool that the title of the album AND the second single is on the video! The woman is making us some detectives right now ;)

avatar

Henri Laitila

1

Yeah I actually just saw the YLE sport news, where there was a big report on Norwich's deciding game and on Teemu Pukki.

Mad awesome for the whole team! And cool to see a Finnish player in Premier League! Hopefully Teemu and the team can be the team to stay, as some Norwich fans stated👍

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it's going to be awesome! Looking at how they've played this year, I do think they'll survive the next EPL season if they maintain that level of performance. :D
Definitely, in fact, I don't think there'll be any other Finnish Premier League players other than Pukki.

avatar

Piran

2

I agree with a lot of points actually, although I think I liked the bridge more than most. Yeah, the "spelling is fun" bit seemed a bit odd, although I thought the "you can't spell 'awesome' without ME!" part was rather clever.
It's certainly an improvement on 'Look What You Made Me Do' & it makes think that TS7 will be a feel-good pop album like '1989' was.
Yeah, I love her cryptic clues contained in the video, so apparently the general predictions from Swifties is that the second single will be called 'Lover' & the album title is 'Kaleidoscope'. ;)

avatar

Henri Laitila

1

Those would be great titles, though I'd love to see the album title being "Lover"! "Kaleidoscope" just reminds me too much of Coldplay's EP.

BTW I've resurrected my old project of reviewing the Year-End charts of the 2010s. I already did and posted 2010 centuries ago😂, and now I'm almost through 2011. I'll post it either today or tomorrow's article, maybe tomorrow's though👍

The Finnish Singles chart is also done and comes with the same schedule👍

avatar

Piran

1

It's possible that it could be the other way round, although 'Kaleidoscope' just sounds like a better title than 'Lover' for an album in my opinion.
Oh cool, I look forward to seeing those! :D
I'm actually not going to look at the Finnish Top 20 this week until you post it, so it's more of a surprise that way! My guess is that 'SOS' is still #1, or if it isn't, then it'll be #2 with 'Ikuinen Vappu' at the top. I also think 'Old Town Road [Remix]' & 'Con Calma' will gain following their debuts last week.

avatar

Henri Laitila

1

That's fine, I won't spoil anything from it then :)

I'm looking forward to next week though, as a lot of new Finnish songs were released that would have an impact.

Robin released his second English song "Suit That". Petri Nygård released his first single of 2019, "Sunnuntaibuffet", and Roope Salminen & Koirat the new summer anthem "Karavaani".
Looking at their streaming and the acts' previous records, I'm quite sure all of them will debut, if they don't crash.
Same goes for "Me". It's with all those four on streaming. "LWYMMD" debuted at #8, so hopefully "Me" charts as well.

Anna Puu also released her new single "Taikaa" and Kaija Koo the song "Pelkkää Voittoo".
Looking at streaming, it's not any bad but it looks like they won't debut, which would be disappointing since both singers previous singles charted. And obviously I'd love to see it as I love both these women, both being in my Top 20 favorite artists!

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks! :)
Is 'Look What You Made Me Do' Taylor's highest charting single in Finland then? Incredibly, despite her having her first hit with 'Love Story' on the UK charts over a decade ago, it was only in 2017 with 'Look What You Made Me Do' that she first hit #1! Before that, she peaked at #2 three times (with 'Love Story', 'I Knew You Were Trouble' & 'Shake It Off').
By the way, the BB200 article is up now, so we'll talk more over there!

No, it came out on Friday 5am BST, hence why it wasn’t eligible for this week’s chart.
